Kerry McLean’s monocycles
A one-wheel riding experiment from inventor Kerry McLean, featured by Inventor Underground in 2006.
A different way to ride
The original feature introduced a smaller version of McLean’s monocycle. It described a prototype with a five-horsepower motor and the unusual experience of learning to control a vehicle built around a single large wheel.
The page placed McLean’s work in the broader history of monowheels. It referred to Doug Self’s monowheel history collection and to the 1932 Dynosphere, which also appeared in promotional footage associated with American Inventor.
Experimenting with motion
McLean’s vehicle was one of several transport ideas in the Inventor Underground collection. The gallery also includes Michael Killian’s sideways bicycle, a design that reconsiders the rider’s orientation and the way a bicycle balances.
Based on the 2006 feature. Product details describe the prototype discussed at that time.
