About the inventor directory
The inventor directory gave independent creators a place to explain their ideas beyond a short television audition.
The idea behind a listing
Each contribution introduced an inventor and an invention, followed by a description in the contributor’s own words. Entries could also include a product category, location, website, reported patent status and audition experience.
Some described a working product. Others focused on a prototype or an idea still in development. Together, they provide a record of the people drawn to the invention community in 2006.
Explore the collection
The gallery brings together 53 inventor profiles, from construction toys and bicycles to household tools and sporting equipment. Longer accounts of development appear in The art of invention.
The directory is a historical collection; new listings are not being accepted.
Contributors’ accounts and product descriptions reflect their original time.
